The Boyne Valley Garden Club is gearing up for another busy summer.  In addition to preparing, planting and maintaining thirteen flower beds, the club holds several fund raisers throughout the year.  Proceeds are used to purchase flowers for these beds which help beautify Boyne City.

Again this summer, members will be selling their keep-sake cookbook which contains 400 recipes collected from members, family and friends.  The cover is a copy of an original watercolor by a member of the club and the dividers are photographs of some of the flowers from the gardens they tend.  The cookbooks sell for $15 and are available from club members and at Local Flavor, Country Now and Then, Provisions, Cindy Franco’s and the Chamber office.  They will also be sold at the Farmers Market and at special events such as the Mushroom Festival, Boyne Thunder and the club’s Fourth of July pie sale.

The Garden Club also holds a shrub and perennial sale each spring.  This year’s shrub is the red twig dogwood “Ivory Halo” which comes in a 3 gallon pot for $18.00.  The sun perennial is a variegated sunflower “Lorraine Sunshine” and the shade perennial is a compact meadowsweet, “Kahome”.  They come in one gallon pots for $10.00.

Posters with photographs of the flowers and shrub are in downtown Boyne City businesses and they have order forms as well.  Look for them at the Boyne Avenue Greenhouse, Ace Hardware, the Boyne Co-op, Local Flavor, Upsy Daisy Floral and Bay Winds Credit Union.  You may also order from any Garden Club member or call
582-9373 or 582-5545.  Order forms must be in by May27, 2010.  Ordered shrubs or flowers need to be picked up at the Boyne Avenue Greenhouse on Saturday, June 6th between 9:00am and 12:00 noon.  Planting and care directions will be available when you pick up your plants.

Garden Club meetings are held on the fourth Thursday of each month at 1:00pm in the Community Room in the library.  New members are always welcome.
