The Bridge over “Mud Creek” in Boyne City

By Bob Morgridge

During the early settlement years some of the hardy pioneers arrived in Boyne by stage traveling over the rutted trail from Boyne Falls.  In the 1880s, Messrs. Hull and Mitchell’s Stage Line charged a quarter for a ride. All who came to Boyne by stagecoach passed over this long forgotten rustic bridge.  At one time there was a stream flowing above the ground from Mud Lake [then called Forest Lake] to the Boyne River.  Today the stream is piped underground.
